RULES FOR WORKSHOP PROPOSALS

Workshops provide opportunities for experimentation with different forms of learning and presentation (as alternative to traditional text-based presentations), encouraging knowledge generation through a range of visual, acoustic, and performative methods. The intention of the workshops is to explore methodological and epistemological possibilities of carrying out and presenting anthropological research and knowledge through dynamic and reciprocal exchange.

Workshops may:

  • explore non-textual and non-linear presentations of anthropological research and knowledge
  • explore narratives, movement, imaginative processes, drawing, photography, writing, design, sensory engagement with material objects, sound recording, performance, visual imaging, social media, display, art practice, the making of 3D forms, computational notebooks, filming, and editing
  • entail collaborative forms of presentation as an alternative to the largely individualistic approach to traditional scholarly presentation
  • offer performative presentations that are characterised by action and participation
  • take place outside the IUAES19 main venue

Formal requirements

  • Workshops should have between 1-3 organisers linked to institutions from different countries.
  • Each participant may convene only one workshop. It is not allowed to submit more than one workshop proposal.
  • All workshop organizers will become members of the IUAES in 2019 (the membership fee will be included in the conference fee).
  • Organisers of approved workshops must pay their conference fee by 2 April 2019 in order to have their workshop included into the Inter-Congress programme.
  • The language for all proposals is English.
  • Each workshop should last 105 or 210 minutes (i.e. one or two sessions).

The criteria for workshop proposals approval

  1. The selection of workshop proposals is the responsibility of the Inter-Congress’s Scientific Committee. The decision will be based on:
  • compliance with the guidelines (see above)
  • quality of the proposal (clarity, cohesion and innovativeness)
  • workshop feasibility
  1. The Scientific Committee will pay attention to different anthropological traditions and topics.

  • All submissions must be made via the online form.
  • In the on-line submission form you will be asked to provide:
